Cairo, Egypt is a crossroads of the world where East and West have met for centuries. Cairo had a population of about twelve million at the time this photograph was snapped, circa 1983. Egypt has been a fascinating tourist destination for thousands of years. The famous pyramids are perhaps 5000 years old! Cairo is a curious blend of ancient and modern.

The camels are brought in from the countryside to the camel market where herdsmen exchange animals and where the old animals are sold for meat and hides.
